In the scriptures, the role of an evangelist involves preaching the good news about Jesus Christ (2 Tim. 4:2) – the word evangelist literally means “bringer of good news.” Specifically, an evangelist’s job is to “equip the saints for the work of ministry” (Ephesians 4.11-12), training other Christians to study the scriptures, to teach what they’ve learned, and to serve however they can. This equipping is done in a variety of different environments: in a public gathering, like a weekly assembly of Christians, or in a more intimate setting, such as a local coffee shop or home (Acts 20.20).
“The kings of the Gentiles exercise lordship over them, and those in authority are called benefactors. But not so with you. Rather, let the greatest among you become as the youngest, and the leader as one who serves.” – Luke 22:26
