Ever notice how hard it is to change someone's mind about something they have always believed to be true? Especially when they don't want to change it!

I hear tell that when you're on a diet there are "good tasting alternative foods to eat." No offense to our ladies here who might believe this claptrap - but I disagree. I think the rule of the day tends to be if it tastes good I shouldn't be eating it and if it tastes like yuk it's good for ya. After all that's the same rule I apply to medicine, ie the worse it tastes the better it is. There are always exceptions of course - cod liver oil tastes bad and I can't imagine it is good for you no matter what they say. Yes I've had it.

It's hard to change my mind on such things, because I have personal experience. People give me diet food and say "oh doesn't that taste good?" and I'm sorry, they never do. Thank goodness for substitutes! Splenda is my friend.

I know that at one time just about anyone who thought about it believed our earth was flat. When astronomers and mathematicians started using experiments to demonstrate the fact we are on a globe I am sure it was hard for people to accept. It is hard for children even today, looking at a globe. Why don't we slide off? What about the folks on the "bottom", doesn't the blood rush to their heads? What holds it in place? When things go round and round they fly AWAY not towards the center, so if the earth turns.... that sort of thing.

While we chuckle at the idea, now, that the earth is a globe, I wonder if you ever thought about which way is the top?

Now hold on - you say the "top" of the world is the north pole and the bottom is the south pole. Says who? Why we have maps that say so. We have come to believe and accept it. But the other day I was reminded of something I'd seen in college, because I saw one again. Deniese and I were at the Outback restaurant. In there was a map of the world, and Australia was on the "top" (yes, Canada and Greenland were on the "bottom") Lest you think this is a map simply hung upside down, the text was also right side up. And supposedly scientists tell us that the polarity of the earth has switched back and forth, too, usually with catastrophic effects. Thus going by which end is "positive" isn't going to resolve this. So lets ask this again - who says the top of the world is the north pole? Some Australians don't think so!

I have a stunner for you - neither does a compass. When you look at a compass, it's true the "red" needle points north. But what is that red needle? Why, the SOUTH pole of yet another magnet. In a compass, the south pole points north and the north pole points south. In short a compass doesn't prove anything except the polarity of our planet. And it lies to you! What points north is south and what points south is north. We rely on a liar!

I thought about this the other day because I was talking to someone about God and they said so conveniently "if what you are saying is true, then everything I believe about the bible is backwards" and I said YES! Instead of a help book to meet the standards of life, it IS the standard for our lives. Instead of a book of history, it is a book of futures!

Paul was accused of being one who had come along trying to "turn the world upside down", and Isaiah spoke out against those who made evil good, and good evil. Folks don't understand that the bible turns them right side up. Splendid is my friend.
