As
some of you may or may not know....I took Sandy Hayes' class this past
Wednesday night. I had a full house with 7 excited faces sitting around
the table...and all looking at me expectantly....I'm always nervous going into
any class because not only do I have such impressionable minds, but the
importance of getting them to understand and apply the Bible is so very
important and who am I but a freckled face trying to reflect the greatness
inside the Bible - trying to teach them things I myself struggle with.
And did I mention...they out numbered me!
I
am so amazed at the knowledge and enthusiasm of our young people.
I felt honored just to be in their presence and inspired to do better
myself in my personal studies. When I see young people like this it gives
me such a warm-excited rush about the possibilities we have in the future.
They will take us so very far. But then later in the week, the next
day in fact I was again astonished by them. While at work I looked
around at the people I work with and again was completely
floored. The youngest, Dylan, has knowledge that amounts to
volumes of not just fact but applicable KNOWLEDGE that by far
exceeds what the people I come into contact on a daily basis at work
- people who are more then 2, 3, and yes even 4 times his age have. Our
conversations that night continued on in such a way that each and very parent
should be proud. We all talked about different verses we knew by
heart, why it was important to know God's words by memory. So often we teach
and talk of honoring our parents. Parents let me be the first to tell you
that your children honor you in a way far greater then words,
they do so in their behavior and love of Christ. May I also suggest
that we as adults in turn honor them for their pure hearts and for the great
wonderful people they are.
To
parents, teachers and our overseers, I want to say thank you. I may not
have any children down in class, but the ones down there will shape all of our
futures both within the church as well as the community and country. You
should be proud, you are all bringing forth great and
wonderful little people that all too soon will be grown up.
