They tricked me!
They tricked me! How? You'll see!

Friday. Dave came and asked if I would take him to see Bridget on Saturday. Since I was planning on dropping by the Dugas house and giving Jessica a hard time, anyway, and since that's about half way to Bridget's house I reckoned I would be OK with that. However. I told Dave I wanted to leave early so I had lots of teasing time. Oh, and he had to get all his Saturday chores done first too (mean old 'rent!)

That was good with Dave, too, in fact he had grand plans of getting up super early and getting his chores done so he could go all that sooner to see Bridget. (you might ask if she *wanted* to see Dave so early in the morning. but that's beyond the scope of this bulletin! ) I suggested to my son on Friday night that he could do his chores then instead of so early the next day, but he's a teen. Why do work when you have free time and nothing else to do and warm weather, sunshine, etc when instead you could put it off until the last minute in one desperate mad rush?

The evil plan was for him to wake up at 7:00. I thought, are you kidding me? This boy who cries about headaches and being tired when I get him up at 8:30 on Sundays so he has time for a shower before we go to church? Who's one day away from being on summer vacation from school? (Monday is his last day) He's going to get himself up and do actual work first thing in the morning? You must be joking. So when I slept in myself, all the way to 6:45, and got up and ready and came in here to hack on this I thought I had plenty of time. I mean, 7:00 came and went and no Dave emerged from hibernation. And there was no way I was going to go in there and wake him up, either. Let sleeping dogs, in this case sleeping "grumps", lie.

Classic example of life, isn't it? Often folks know what the right thing is to do, but they put it off. They want to play first. Why obey God and "limit" yourself through the best days of your life? You can always obey at the last minute and slip in under the wire, right? "Time, time, time enough yet" as the old song goes. So I thought I would sit down here and write a nice bulletin at my son's expense about how people are irresponsible with their souls and salvation, and put things off (usually until it's too late.)

Ah, but they tricked me. See, when I woke up Deniese wasn't here either. This came as no real surprise, I always figured she was a smart woman and would up and leave me one of these days, and when I woke up to find her gone I just figured she was either having a hankering for bagels and ran down town to get some or she'd finally realized what a bad deal she got in marrying me and had done something about it. Either way, the time on the clock got closer and closer to 8:00 and I thought about waking up Dave when out of the window I spied my car coming up the street. Deniese doesn't drive stick if she doesn't have to, so I knew it was her and my son, back from some Father's Day shopping no doubt. Seems they were in cahoots to sneak out when I was sleeping and come back with something before I woke up, which they didn't expect me to do before 7:00 so I would be none the wiser, but it took longer than they thought.

See how wrong I was? My son wasn't lazy, he was even more industrious than I had imagined; getting up even earlier than I thought! Not only did he get himself up, but he got mom to go with him. Just goes to show that when we observe others, we have to be careful not to assume they are "classic examples" of anything, and there is some hope they will do the right thing in a timely manner instead of putting it off until it's too late. (I wonder if anyone close to me got the message in that? )
