If you were here Wednesday night
If you were here Wednesday night you likely saw my cousin and his family were here from out of town visiting for Thanksgiving. Like many of you, we delight in having family and friends in for a spell and chatting with them about who's married who, as well as little snippets of funny episodes of people in the family.

Deniese is always a little nervous when company comes, and although I offer to help her at a moment's notice I am not always around when things need to be done. She caught me, as it happened, on Thursday morning as I was passing through downstairs of our house on. my way to the garage. She asked me to set up an extra table in the dining room for use later that day when we ate.

I of course replied "yes mama" and headed for the dining room. On the way, I noticed the trash was getting full so I grabbed a new bag and swapped it with the full one. I took the full one to the garage and put it out with the rest of the trash. When in the garage, I snagged some kindling wood for the fire and brought it into the house, where I promptly started a fire for her because I observed it was cold. Then I spied some boxes of packing stuff I had left in the living room, which I picked up and carried down into the basement and stored away neatly with the rest of the packing supplies. I noticed there were a lot of nerf guns lying around from the last potluck, so I did a quick sweep of the basement and sure enough found several darts and foam balls about that needed put away. Once I got that all done I stepped on a clump of dirt one of the kids had tracked in on their shoe carelessly. I got the swiffer out and pushed the dry and easily lifted dirt up into a pile in the corner.

Finally, I came back upstairs and folded the throws and quilts and arranged them across the back of the couch. Then I restocked the little 'fridge in our big room with drinks for our guests and sat down in my chair, satisfied with the work I had done for my wife.

Deniese, of course, found me there and kinda wondered what it would take to get me to help a little. You ladies reading this know what was wrong, but you guys might be as dense as I was. Why wasn't Deniese happy with all that I did for her? Because I never did get that table set up!!!

In your mind, you might think she had no right to be annoyed. I mean, look at the long list of things I *did* do for her. But she was right. Down in the kitchen, she was starting to have things piling up in the way. Dishes for dinner had been set on the counter, the silverware had been pulled out to be placed, and tablecloths were ready to go. Food was being prepared in various stages, timers were beeping, etc. That table needed to be there, but in my "helping" I left undone what she really wanted me to do, what would have pleased her most.

I hope it's obvious how this applies to us. There are those who believe in God but never happen to obey what he says. Oh, they may be great people! They help the sick, feed the poor, and are always there when you need comfort or help. They certainly live their religion in their day to day lives. But they never happen to get around to doing ALL of what God commands us to do, like being baptized. Some flat out refuse to obey God in this matter, but I believe there are some out of simple ignorance that just don't seem to ever get around to it. What will God say when they stand before him on Judgment day?

By the way, I immediately got down there and set up that table. I had time and the desire to repent. If you have left something undone, what about you?
