Life is really like a wave
Life is really like a wave with all its ups and down, highs and lows. It is something that we need to learn to navigate. In the book of James we are taught to count everything as joy. The highs and the lows of life are all tests of our faith and we need to embrace them all with an attitude of Joy. A Joy for the opportunity they present for us to glorify God.
Joy is powerful and it is not just a thing we need to overcome trials with, it is also something that we can receive from God. There is the Joy from worshiping God. There is the Joy from gathering with brethren. There is even Joy found in the study of scripture. Joy goes hand in hand with God.
The Joy from God is also gained in many other different ways. Joy is gained simply from a good quality of life or the good things he allows to happen in our lives. It can be found in the little things such as the loving smile of a little child or in the knowledge that your better half is committed for life. All of these Joys combined give us an attitude that will help keep us afloat as we sojourn over the waves of life.
There is another very important aspect of Joy that we must never forget. Recently we were at the Crihfield's for a BBQ, after all it is that time of the year you know. Deniese presented us with a quilt that she and others created. This was celebrating the Joy we received from adopting the girls. Now seeing Kathy's face light up over its beauty reminded me that Joy is something that can be given as well! We thank you ever so much for that!
Even giving Joy is something that comes in many forms. Joy can be given in ways other than a physical form. One extremely important way is the Joy you give when you edify one another. So with that thought in mind every brother and sister here today has given another Joy simply by being faithful to your worship and for that we are truly Joyfully thankful!
