It's in the stars (or maybe bars)

Fate is a very interesting thing, to me. When I think of fate, I think of astrology and all that mumbo jumbo stuff that people pin their beliefs on. Fate puts forward the idea that some things are beyond your control. That some things were just meant to be and you can not stop them from happening no matter what you do. Usually these are monumental happenings. Why did I grow up to be a computer engineer? Because I studied hard and did my homework? Naw, because I was just meant to be one. When I was born there were no such thing as computer engineers, but that doesn?t matter to fate. The same people who wake up every day and don?t believe in God believe in this stuff. Riiiight...

So it was with interest I listened to a coworker explain to me how in a cosmic, like wow way this American tragedy simply had to come about sooner or later. It was destined, as the fate of our nation. What proof did he offer? He said this: launch a word processor that has the ?wingdings? font. The program Wordpad on a windows box has this. So launch Wordpad, type ?Q33 NY? (flight 33, right? And it happened in NY) and highlight the text. Switch to 26 sized font and choose wingdings fonts and something amazing will happen. I will do it for you right here.

I guess this is supposed to mean an airplane crashes into two towers, death to Israel. See? You have to kinda stretch to get a meaning out of it that makes sense. Those who take real stock in this crazy talk always claim things are crystal clear AFTER they happen. Well duh, I can do this, too. A guy is going to take a plane ride and read a paper along the way. He?s going to read two articles about poison control centers that use sunlight to cure patients. See? I can warp this any way I want. Oh, and he will use this info to help a quarterback, of the NY Jets, who will be poisoned at age 33. Why not? The beauty of this fate stuff is the fact you can make up anything you want, and if it ?fits? then it must be true. There is no coincidence, everything happens for a reason. Riiiight...

Our meeting on Revelations is coming up fast. Maybe you have coworkers like mine, who take this claptrap seriously. Tell them about this study, maybe they?ll come just to see what happens. After all, the book of Revelations is another one of those ?quote and pervert? texts that people love to divine meanings out of. They get their fate theories right out of the bible (since obviously they didn?t find them IN the bible!) but wouldn?t it be just awful if they actually learned something about God while they were here?

Numbers 23:23 Surely there is no enchantment against Jacob, neither is there any divination against Israel: according to this time it shall be said of Jacob and of Israel, What hath God wrought!

Deuteronomy 18:10-12 There shall not be found among you any one that maketh his son or his daughter to pass through the fire, or that useth divination, or an observer of times, or an enchanter, or a witch, or a charmer, or a consulter with familiar spirits, or a wizard, or a necromancer. For all that do these things are an abomination unto the LORD: and because of these abominations the LORD thy God doth drive them out from before thee.

Jeremiah 14:14 Then the LORD said unto me, The prophets prophesy lies in my name: I sent them not, neither have I commanded them, neither spake unto them: they prophesy unto you a false vision and divination, and a thing of nought, and the deceit of their heart.

Ezekiel 13:6-7 They have seen vanity and lying divination, saying, The LORD saith: and the LORD hath not sent them: and they have made others to hope that they would confirm the word. Have ye not seen a vain vision, and have ye not spoken a lying divination, whereas ye say, The LORD saith it; albeit I have not spoken?

Ezekiel 21:21 For the king of Babylon stood at the parting of the way, at the head of the two ways, to use divination: he made his arrows bright, he consulted with images, he looked in the liver.

Matthew 16:1-3 The Pharisees also with the Sadducees came, and tempting desired him that he would show them a sign from heaven. He answered and said unto them, When it is evening, ye say, It will be fair weather: for the sky is red. And in the morning, It will be foul weather to day: for the sky is red and lowering. O ye hypocrites, ye can discern the face of the sky; but can ye not discern the signs of the times?
